Sorpotel Ingredients

  • 1 kg- Pork
  • ½ kg- Pork Liver
  • 4-5 tbsp- Vinegar
  • 1 tsp- Cumin Seed
  • 6-7 Red chilies
  • 1 tsp- Turmeric powder
  • 5- Cloves
  • ½ tbsp- Ginger paste
  • 1 tbsp- Garlic paste
  • 3- Onions (medium size)
  • 4- Green chilies
  • 2- tbsp- Groundnut oil
  • Salt to taste

Preparation Method for Sorpotel Recipe

Sorpotel is a spicy Goan dish. Let’s see how this dish is prepared. First of all, wash and keep the pork and the liver aside. Take garlic, ginger, cloves, red chilies, cumin seeds and grind it into a smooth paste with some vinegar.

In another pan, boil the pork and liver. Once it cools, cut it into small cubes. In a non-stick pan, fry this meat without using oil. Keep tossing it till the meat gets an even brown color. Remove and keep it aside. Now in the same pan, put some oil and fry the onions till it turns light brown.

Add the ground paste with the onions and fry till oil oozes out.  Once done, add the pork and put salt with 3 cups of water. Cover it with a lid and cook on low flame. Keep checking every now and then if the meat is tender. Now slit green chilies and continue cooking for 5-6 minutes.

Your Sorpotel is ready and you can have it with bread or steamed rice. Sorpotel is usually served with fried eggs, sausages, bread and cold coffee which makes it an ideal breakfast for Goans.
