Ringworm is believed to be very common skin disease which is the result of presence of a fungus. The disease is more irritating than severe.

The patches of ringworm are generally round or oval, with projected pink and scaly rings with a clean spot in the centre. The itching in the infected area enables to spread infection via nails to other uninfected parts of the body. If left untreated for long time, the infection turns chronic and then it may become tough to cure it.

Causes of Ringworm 

Lack of Protective Fatty Acids in Scalp

Ringworm infection is mostly witnessed in the scalp, the feet, the body, and the nails. Ringworm of the scalp is normal among children which are caused due to deficiency of protective fatty acids in the scalp. The disease captures the skin and stretches deeper into the hair roots, and also up in the hair. The affected hair gets dull and breaks off close to its root. This leads to bald spaces on the scalp.

Ringworm is transmitted from an infected person to a normal person through contact as it is an infectious disease. Using same article like towel of an infected person can also result in getting infected. 

Home Remedies for Ringworm

Ringworm Treatment Using Mustard Seeds

Another effective home remedy for the treatment of ringworm is mustard seeds. Prepare a paste of these seeds and administer it externally over the ringworm patches and don’t forget to wash the skin with sufficient hot water before applying this paste.

Ringworm Treatment Using Papaya

Unripe papaya is one of the most useful home remedies for ringworm. The slices of raw papaya should be scrubbed on the ringworm patches. You can also make a paste from dried papaya seeds which can be applied on these ringworm patches.

Ringworm Treatment Using Butea Seeds

The butea herb seeds can also prove to be very valuable and effective in ringworm. The seeds should be transformed into a paste and blended with a little lime juice. Apply this paste externally over the affected skin and see the results.

Ringworm Treatment Using Cassia Leaves

The leaves of the cassia tree are also of medicinal values and useful in warding off the irritation of the skin and in alleviating pains and swellings. The essence of these leaves or a paste made from it can be applied to ringworm patches to get the best results.

Ringworm Treatment by Holy Basil

The leaves of basil can also be effective in treating ringworm irritation. The juice of these leaves should be administered over ringworm patches.

Ringworm Treatment Using Turmeric

Turmeric is also quite a great natural remedy in the treatment of ringworm. The juice of raw turmeric can be applied externally to the ringworm affected parts of the skin. At the same time, one teaspoon of turmeric juice and equal quantity of honey can be consumed orally.

Ringworm Treatment Using Raw Vegetable Juices

Raw vegetable juices, specifically carrot juice blend with spinach juice, have been tested to be effective in the treatment of ringworm. You can get 500 ml of juice by blending 300 ml of carrot juice and 200 ml of spinach juice to fight ringworm. 

Ringworm Diet

All-fruit Diet, Curd and Milk

To start with, the patient should follow an all-fruit diet for almost five days. Three meals of fresh juicy fruits i.e. apples, papayas, oranges, pineapples, and pomegranates at an equal interval of five-hours can be advisable. This will help drain morbid matter from the body and result in substantial improvement. Fruits and salt-free raw or boiled vegetables with whole-wheat wheat tortilla can be added in the meal after the all-fruit diet. After a few days you can also add curd and milk in your diet.

Well-balanced Diet

The patient may, thereafter, by and by switch over to well-balanced diet with a focus on seeds, wholegrain cereals, raw or lightly cooked vegetables, nuts, and fresh fruits.

Avoid Tea, Coffee and Tinned or Bottled Foods

The patient should avoid tea, coffee, all condiments and flavored dishes, along with sugar, tinned and bottled foods, and white flour products.

Other Ringworm Treatments

Warm-water Enema, Fresh Air, Drink Plenty of Water

A lukewarm-water enema may be opted to cleanse the bowels when you are on the all-fruit diet. The patient should try to get maximum fresh air. He should drink sufficient water and bathe at least two times daily. The skin, except the part affected with ringworm, should be vigorously scrubbed with the palms of the hands prior to taking a bath.

Apply Coconut Oil, Sunbathing and Mudpack

Coconut oil may be administered to the ringworm infected spots. It will enable the skin to stay supple. Sunbathing is also effective and should be taken early in the morning, at the maiden light of dawn. A gentle mudpack applied over the affected parts of the ringworm can also be helpful. You should use this mudpack twice in a day and leave it on for half an hour.
