Nose Bleeding Home Remedies

Nose bleeding is seen both in children and the adults. It occurs due to the vulnerability of the septum. Injury to the nose, infection in the mucous membrane, cold, nose picking, allergy, sinusitis and dryness are some of the reasons of nose bleeding. In most of the cases bleeding is seen in the front part of the nose and it can be stopped by following some simple home remedies. But for internal nose bleeding, it is advisable to consult with the doctor immediately. 

Reasons of Nose Bleed

  • Infection

  • Shock, including the one self-induced by nose picking

  • Sensitive rhinitis

  • High blood pressure

  • Use of blood reduction medications

  • Misuse of alcohol

  • Tumor  

  • Bleeding problems may occur due to heredity

  • Blowing the nose forcefully

  • Cold or flu

  • Chocked, stuffy or dry nose, often caused by an infection

  • Fever 

  • Moving a height above sea level

  • Too much use of nasal decongestants.

  • Excessive use of cocaine

  • Nasal congestion, due to a nasal allergy

  • Strep throat

The Following Are Some Of The Home Remedies For Nose Bleeding

  • Blow the nose so that if there is any clot inside the nose, it will come out. And after that the nose will start to contract by itself.

  • Put one or two drop of lemon juice in the bleeding nostril.

  • Take half a glass of salty water and sprinkle it inside the nose.

  • After dipping a cotton ball in apple cider vinegar apply that on the bleeding nose. It makes the blood to clot and stops bleeding.

  • Humidify the air around the person whose nose is bleeding. For this you can take the help of a good air humidifier. This act will lessen the load on the nose and it will be helpful in preventing bleeding.

  • Add a tablespoon of goldenseal to a pint of water. Boil the solution after putting it in a pan. Take it out of the flame after the first boil comes and let the decoction get cooled. Drop a few drops of the decoction in the nostrils and repeat the process for few more times in a day.

  • Another effective way to stop nose bleeding is to place an ice pack on the outside of the nose. 

  • Sometimes keeping a wet towel on head has been helpful in stopping the nose bleeding. 

  • Blow the nose by applying some pressure. At times this home remedy is also beneficial to stop bleeding.

  • Cap the bleeding portion with wet cotton. If cotton is not available at home you can use sterilized gauze in place of it.  

  • Sit straight at the time of bleeding. Do not tilt back. If you recline the blood may flow into the throat instead of coming outside.

  • Never pick your nose at the time of bleeding.  It will take a long time to get relief completely.

  • Often it has been noticed that the intake of aspirin has affected the blood clotting. If nose bleeding has been seen frequently in you do not take aspirin.

  • Check your blood pressure because people with hypertension have been found to be prone to nose bleeding.

  • A few types of oral contraceptives cause nose bleeding. Alteration in the estrogen level has been found to be the cause of nose bleeding. Hence, choose the right oral contraceptive. 

  • Avoid smoking.
