Motherhood is a very special phase in a woman’s life and, although we associate it with babies, this phase never really ends as mothers feel maternal towards their offspring throughout their lives. Maternal instincts are provoked even before childbirth, once pregnancy sets in. Mothers carry the child for nine months as it develops and grows and bonds with the mother throughout this time. After it is born, the child is helpless and cannot function independently of the mother for many years. All this time, the mother sacrifices a lot of things: her sleep, her time, her energy – all this goes towards the proper upbringing of the child. Motherhood is challenged a lot in the teen years as children reach puberty and undergo a lot of changes themselves. And the role never ends till their children are parents themselves! Motherhood may be very challenging but it is one of the most fulfilling roles of a lifetime.
