Maca (Lepidium meyenii) is a root plant incorporated in food for its medicinal properties. Maca is also popular as "Peruvian ginseng" and it stimulates stamina, energy, and sexual appetite.

1.Maca and Sexual Function

According to a 2010 research published in BMC Complementary and Alternative Medicine, maca may manifest positive effects on sexual function or appetite in healthy menopausal women or healthy men.

It is suggested to follow the directions mentioned on the package, particularly when you are consuming this root as a supplement for the first time. Generally a capsule contains 500 mg of dried maca.
Maca powder can be consumed initially in small amounts and then gradually increase the amount. In the starting phase, one table spoon of powdered maca is fine. It can be taken with your favorite juice or fruits and you can enjoy your healthy drink every day.  Maca cannot replace other nutritious food but it should be fused with other natural products your body requires to stay strong and healthy.

Some common side effects of Maca, which are often witnessed, include: 

  • Upset Stomach

  • Fast heartbeat

  • Often give a feeling of hyper when mixed with coffee or other stimulants

  • Sweating

  • Heat sensations

  • More intermittent menstruation witnessed but cycle returns to normal once the dose is lowered or stopped

  • Cramping in some women
