Organ transplantation is one of the greatest advances in modern medicine and it is becoming the most common surgical procedures today. Generally, people born with structural abnormality, illness or disease that caused an organ to fail undergo this procedure to rectify their medical defects. So, the main reason for the organ transplantation is when one of the recipient’s organs such as kidney, heart, lung or liver stops functioning because of illness or injury.

To undergo organ transplant one must –

  • Have a severe or progressive illness that no longer responds to medical procedures.
  • Be physically and emotionally fit to undergo the surgery.
  • Have a serious chronic disease that cures only with organ transplantation.
  • Be willing to accept the consequences or risks of the surgical procedure.
