In the United States alone, more than 28,000 patients undergo successful organ transplantation procedures. More than 50% of the organ transplants in the US are kidney transplants. About 25% of the procedures are liver transplants and the remaining for the other organs. It is estimated that, every eleven minutes, one recipient is added to the organ waiting list.
All over the world, millions of people are waiting for organ donation. There is a serious shortage and demand for organs. The largest number of transplantations is done in the US, followed by Europe, Africa, Asia and Latin America (in that order).
