Goan Fish Curry Ingredients

  • 2 Pomfret fish
  • 1 lemon size tamarind pulp 
  • 2 tbsp ginger paste
  • 2 tbsp garlic paste
  • 1 tbsp malt vinegar
  • ½ cup Coconut (grated)
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 6 Red chilies whole
  • 2 Green chilies
  • 1 tomato (small)
  • 2 tbsp Coriander seeds
  • 2 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 onion (small) and salt to taste

Preparation Method for Goan Fish Curry Recipe

Before you start making Goan Fish Curry, keep all the ingredients ready. Start with washing and cleaning the fish well. Cut the fish into 6 pieces. Now roast coriander seeds, whole red chilies and cumin seeds in a pan. In a blender, add the grated coconut, garlic and ginger paste and malt vinegar along with the roasted spices. Blend all these into a smooth paste. 

Now in a cooking pan, heat some oil. Add the chopped onions and fry till light brown. Now add the chopped tomatoes and the slit green chilies and fry for 3-4 minutes. Keep stirring constantly to avoid it from getting sticking. Once it is fried, add the ground paste and then add 1 ½ cup of water. Boil the Goan fish curry for a few minutes and then add salt according to your taste. Cover it with a lid till the fish cooks in the gravy. 

Since the Goan fish curry is hot and sour, it goes well with hot steamed rice. Being a spicy dish, rice is a better option and it can be served for lunch or dinner. Other than Pomfret fish, any other one-bone fish can also be used for Goan fish curry as every fish has its own taste.
