Dysthyroid Exophthalmos

Dysthyroid exophthalmos is also known as Graves’ disease. It is an eye related disease which is often autoimmune disease. In this disease the thyroid is over reactive and constantly produces excessive thyroid hormone. This disease is very common in children and adults. Most of the patients who are victims of hyperthyroidism are prone to get dysthyroid exophthalmos. The main characteristic of this disease is that it has a very strong hereditary component. At least 2% of the female are affected by this disease at a very early age. The disease is mostly diagnosed by the identification of the symptoms and other signs. There are various tests which are carried out to diagnose the disease in the patient.

It is mostly said that there is no proper cure for the disease. The Dysthyriud exophthalmos is a disease which is autoimmune which means they come with an in-built auto antibodies along with them.

Dysthyroid Exophthalmos Symptoms

  • The eye suddenly is very sensitive to bright light. This can be very irritating. Any direct light into your eye cannot be taken.
  • Another important symptom is blurring of the vision.

Dysthyroid Exophthalmos Causes

Dysthyroid exophthalmos is an autoimmune disease which has the capability of autoantibodies production. Till date auto antibody production is not clearly understood by many of the physicians. When there is autoimmune functioning of the disease then there is a wide possibility that the disease can fight the antibodies of the body. Therefore, it is important to understand how the antibodies are produced. Yersinia enterocolitica is considered to be one of the culprits in helping this disease enter this body.

This disease often affects the human body at an older age. It starts to get into the bodies of the people whose thyroid levels are very high. The infection which enters the body triggers these antibodies and this helps in spreading the infection in the body. Another cause of this disease is due to the sensitivity of the nervous system of the person. Due to weak nervous system also a person is capable of getting dysthyroid exophthalmos.

As this disease also has a high hereditary component, it also might be a cause for getting this disease.
