Disorder basically means lack of order, confusion or chaos. In medical terms, it means a disturbance in physical or mental health or functions. There are many groups of disorders. Some common ones are Adjustment Disorder, Anxiety Disorders, Childhood Disorders, Eating Disorders, Mood Disorders, Cognitive Disorders (Delirium, Dementia, Amnesia), Personality Disorders, Schizophrenia & Other Psychotic Disorders, and Substance-Related Disorders. Each of these groups has a number of related disorders classified within them. Such disorders are serious and can adversely affect the quality of one’s life. Some are even fatal, for example, anorexia and bulimia. Anyone suffering from these disorders requires the help and guidance of a medical professional. They should not be treated at home.
