What are Cold Sores?

Cold sores are also known as Fever Blisters. These are tiny blisters that are seen around the mouth or lips and sometimes seen on the cheeks or nose. The cold sores are very sensitive and cause a stinging pain. Many people suffer from this problem and it generally lasts for 8-10 days.

Cold sores look like a boil with a fluid oozing from it and it has a yellow surface. The symptoms of cold sores is that a person may feel tired dull before it occurs. Cold Sores Home Remedies

Whole Milk- Take some whole milk in a glass and keep it at room temperature for about 10-15 minutes. Then take some cotton or a piece of cloth and soak it in the milk and then compress it on the cold sore. The compress has to be kept on the cold soar for 15 minutes. Later remove the compress and wash it off to get rid of the smell. This home remedy helps in quick healing.

Lysine- Lysine is a type of amino acid that helps in curing cold sores. A regular intake of 2000-3000 mg every day will help in curing the virus. These supplements are easily available and are very effective in curing cold sores. Along with taking lysine, a person also has to cut down on, cereals, chocolate, peanuts, beer, cola and foods rich in gelatin and foods that are high in arginine.

Ice- A very good way to ease out the pain is to rub some ice cubes on cold sores. The ice cubes have to be rubbed for a couple of minutes when it starts erupting. This has to be repeated after every 15 minutes as it would provide immediate relief.

Aloe Vera- Aloe Vera has great cooling properties, especially for cold sores. Rub some Aloe Vera gel on the cold sore and you will get immediate relief. Instead of Aloe Vera gel, even fresh juice can be used.

Peppermint Oil- Applying peppermint oil gives immediate cooling relief to cold sores. Take this oil in some cotton and keep dabbing it on the cold sores. Do this for 10 minutes for an hour.

Lemon Balm- Lemon Balm is very good for curing cold sores. It is rich in antiviral properties and this cream should be applied on the cold sores. If this cream is used regularly, it even reduces the occurrence of cold sores.

Astragalus and Reishi- Reishi is a mushroom that has been used since centuries in Asian tradition for curing cold sores and it also strengthens the immune system. Taking about 600 milligrams twice a day will help. Astragalus is a type of herb that is used to strengthen the immune system and control the spreading of the virus that causes cold sores.
