Butcher's broom, a shrubby European plant has great medicinal value. Butcher's Broom which is also known as Jew's Myrtle, Knee Holly, Kneeholm, Pettigree and Sweet Broom, is the source of ruscogenin and related saponins which  has been widely used since the ancient Greek and Roman civilizations in herbal preparations. Ruscogenins, anthocyanins, and saponins which are found in butcher’s broom are beneficial in the treatment of urinary obstruction, edema, ascites and hemorrhoids and for removal of phlegm.

It is reported that in rare cases, butcher’s broom supplementation may cause mild nausea and queasiness.

Butcher's Broom Supplement Dosages

The recommended dosage of butcher's broom is between 1 and 1.5 grams per day. For systemic venous insufficiency, the recommended dosage is 1,000 mg three times daily.
