Ask your husband or someone of your family to drive you to and from the hospital prior to and after the day of surgery since you would not be in a state of mind and feel sleepy due to anesthesia respectively. The effect of the anesthesia will last up to 48 hours and you are advised against operating machineries. And most importantly, you should avoid taking stressful decisions at that time.
Line up someone to help you doing the household works like cooking, shopping or other usual tasks for few days following the surgery.
Keep the foods, rich in vitamins, minerals and protein, in store to expedite the healing process.
Keep ready daily utilities such as bathroom toiletries, kitchen utensils, tins, bottles etc. at hip or eye level so that you will not face problems in getting them easily in your hand.
Arrange something baggy and comfortable to wear during those periods.
A day prior to your surgery, pack the things that you want to bring to the hospital.
Take your meals six hours before the surgery.
The breast reduction surgery is carried out under common anesthesia. Usually, you could be treated as an outpatient, but in some rare cases the patient needs to stay in the hospital. The techniques of surgery differ from one surgeon to another and it also depends on the requirements of the patient. However in general, a cut is made from the lower crease of the breast, above the nipple in a circle, to the crease of another side of the breast. The shape of the incision is similar to that of an upturned keyhole.
As part of the surgery, additional skin, fat and tissues are removed from the breast. The nipple and areola are moved up as they remain connected with the nerves during the surgery. The skin on both the sides of the breast is moved up and then towards the center to make a new contour and the skin is sewed up together. The maximum duration of the surgery is around one to three hours for each breast.
