Preparation Method for Batata Vada Recipe

Batata vada is a tasty dish so let’s see how it is made. Put potatoes in a pressure cooker and cook till it get soft. Generally it would cook in two to three whistles. Once it cools peel, mash and keep it aside.

Now grind ginger, garlic and green chilies into a fine paste. You may have to sprinkle some water to make a wet paste. Mix this paste with the mashed potatoes, onions, lime juice, sugar, salt and coriander leaves.

In a separate pan, add some oil and heat it. Once hot add mustard seeds and curry leaves. When it starts cracking, mix it with the mashed potato mixture. In another shallow bowl, mix besan, cumin seeds, turmeric powder, salt, baking soda, red chili powder, coconut and some water. Make a thick batter and add 1 tsp of hot oil in it. Now make medium size potato balls and dip it in the batter. In a deep frying pan, drop them one by one and fry till they turn golden brown.

Your batata vada (potato dumplings) are ready. Serve them with tomato sauce or green chutney. Relish them with tea or evening snacks.
