Chinese Spare Ribs Ingredients

  • Pork spare ribs 2 pounds

For Marinade

  • Garlic 5 or 6 cloves
  • Honey 1/4 cups
  • Light soy sauce   2 tablespoon
  • Dry mustard powder 1 tablespoon
  • Ginger chopped 2 teaspoons
  • Lemon juice 2 teaspoon
  • Vinegar 1 table spoon
  • Sherry 2 tablespoon
  • Tomato ketchup 2 or three tablespoon
  • Hoi sin sauce 3 tablespoon
  • Chinese five spice powder 1/2 teaspoon
  • Star anise 3
  • Salt to taste

Chinese Spare Ribs Preparation Method

  • Place the spare ribs, salt and star anise in a saucepan and add water till it completely covers the ribs cook it over medium flame for about 30 to 45 minutes till the meat gets half cooked. Pre cooking ensures that the meat will be evenly and easily cooked while barbecuing.
  • Let the spare ribs cool after draining off the water completely.
  • In a large bowl mix in the remaining ingredients so as to make the marinade. Nowadd the cooked spare ribs into the marinade and coat all of it completely and keep it aside to marinate. An overnight marinating can help the flavors to penetrate well into the meat. But if you want the meat the same day then keep the it in the mix for two to three hours.
  • Place the marinated ribs on a barbecue rack and bake on medium heat for about half an hour, the baking time will depend on how well you pre coked the meat. Serve it hot as a side dish, appetizer or as a main course meal.
