Beer Battered Fish & Chips Ingredients

  • 6 medium sized yellow waxy potatoes; peeled and cut into equal size and shape for fries.
  • 3 cups of canola or vegetable oil
  • Sea Salt for sprinkling
  • 1 and 2/3 cup of self-raising flour
  • 1 cup cold beer
  • ½ cup of cold water
  • ½ tablespoon of salt for seasoning
  • 8 small sized boneless white fish filets
  • That sweet chilli sauce for serving
  • Lemon Wedges for serving

Beer Battered Fish & Chips Preparation Method

  1. Take a bowl and sift together flour and salt. Now add beer and enough water to make a thick batter. Set the batter aside for 15 to 20 minutes.
  2. In the mean time cut and peel potatoes into even size thick fries and place the potato slices on a paper towel so that all the moisture is drained.
  3. Take a deep saucepan and pour oil into it and heat over a very high heat. Once you see that the oil has started swirling fry the potato chips till they turn into dark golden brown and remove them into paper towel so that excess oil is drained.
  4. Now season them with sea salt and place them in the oven on a very low heat to keep it warm.
  5. Now carefully dip the fish in the batter and then put it into the hot oil to fry.
  6. When the fish gets a golden brown that’s when you know that it is cooked. Transfer the fish into a paper towel to drain the excess oil.
  7. Your Beer Battered Fish & Chips is ready to serve.
  8. This fish goes well with chips, some Thai sweet chilli sauce and lots of lemon wedges.
