Beef Stew Ingredients

  • 1.5 lb. stewing beef
  • 1/2 cup of flour
  • 1 teaspoon of salt to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon of pepper to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon of cumin
  • 3 teaspoon of cooking oil
  • 1 1/2 cup of water
  • 2 medium sized diced and separated onions
  • 3 potatoes cut in cub shaped
  • 3 diced carrots
  • 3 stalks of sliced celery

Beef Stew Preparation Method

Cut meat into bite-size pieces for a better result or if you need to. Add flour, salt, and pepper in a dish or bag. Place pieces of meat in a bowl or bag, a handful in one go, and shake or toss it across to coat it evenly. Retain the flour for further use.

Let the meat turn brown in oil from all sides. Add water and cover it to cook over low heat until the meat becomes tender. Generally it will soften in about 2 hours. Toss vegetables into the pan and continue cooking until vegetables are done which will take about another 30 minutes. You can thicken the gravy using reserved flour or adding a bit of cornstarch.

Tips about Beef

Buy from 1 pound to 2 pounds depending on how "beefy" you want your dinner to be but around 1.5 pounds is the best measurement. Also, necessarily it does not have to be the pre-cut stew meat package. You can buy that very day whatever is on sale that day. If it requires cutting up, don’t hesitate to do it. Get what's fresh and looks the best in quality at the time.

Tips to Serve

You can serve with your favorite side salad, some flaky cookies, biscuits or a nice crusty bread to make it a complete and yummy delight.
