William Penn Life Insurance Company began its operation as Modern Life Insurance Company in the year 1963. William Penn Life Insurance Company is headquartered in New York. The company was acquired by ITT Hamilton Life insurance company, a subsidiary of Penncorp Financial in the year 1967. In the following eight years, the company’s name was changed thrice from ITT life insurance company of New York to Penn Life Insurance Company of New York and finally to William Penn Life Insurance Company of New York in 1975. In the year 1983, William Penn Life Insurance Company was acquired by maiden Lane Life insurance company but the ownership was subsequently transferred to Commercial Life Insurance company, both being subsidiaries of Continental Corp. The ownership was again transferred two years later but this time directly to Continental Corp. In 1989, the company was purchased by Legal & General group Plc. as a wholly owned subsidiary of Banner Life Insurance Company. Today William Penn Life Insurance Company is one of the constituents of Legal & General America Companies.
