The fact of the matter is that for most veterans, dental care is available once after discharge from the armed services. The request application has to be put in within 3 months of discharge – the other condition is that he/she had not received any care prior to discharge, while still in service.
The eligibility rules are very complex. There are other ways for vets to get dental care through the VA – depending on the level of service and a pre-existing illness exacerbated by poor oral health issues. One thing to do is to contact the eligibility clerk at the closest medical center run by the VA – find out more information on how to apply for dental benefits and treatment. This way, people in need of help can be notified when the situation has been evaluated for eligibility and care.
