Skin Care In Twenties

Skin Care In Twenties

If you are in your twenties and have been ignoring the daily skin care routine, this is a wakeup call. Just by investing few minutes daily in pampering your skin you will be able to gain a healthy glowing skin. During the age of twenties your skin regenerates in a speedy manner and might generally look firm and glowing but this doesn’t mean you can ignore skin care procedures. Avoiding skincare treatment during this age may lead to many skin problems in the recent future.

The most common problem faced by most of the people in their twenties is premature aging. The common signs of premature aging include the appearance of lines and wrinkles, reduced elasticity and collagen level, diminished skin glow and so on. The major reason for premature aging is the production of excess free radicals in the skin. These excess free radicals are generated on the skin by various factors like exposure to sun light, pollution, smoking, stress and strains, use of cosmetics containing harmful chemicals etc.

Know Your Skin Type

Before starting the skin care regime you need to know in which skin type you fall onto. This helps in opting the right method for skin care. Let’s see the most common skin types and the care that should be taken for each.

Normal Skin

If your skin has a smooth even texture with medium sized pores and elastic supple nature then you possess a normal skin. It is less prone to skin problems compared to all other skin types and has a good circulation. Normal skin always looks clean and fresh. It requires only minimal care than other skin types.

  • Cleanse the face with mild soap or cleanser twice a day.
  • Use moisturizers that are mild and oil based.
  • Keep the skin away from direct heat.
  • To protect the skin from drying and aging during day time use cosmetic product s that has sunscreen action.
  • Apply a non drying face pack twice a month.

Dry Skin

If your skin appears tight and always appears as if starving for moisture even after bath, then you possess a dry skin. Special care should be taken to rehydrate the skin as dehydration may cause early appearance of wrinkles.

  • Use lukewarm water to wash your hands, face and while having bath. Too hot and too cold water may make your skin even drier.
  • Always pat dry your skin with a towel instead of rubbing with it.
  • Apply moisturizing lotion on clean skin evenly after the shower.
  • Moisturizing cream should also be applied at night before going to bed.
  • Use a cleanser which has creamy moisturizing effect instead of soaps during shower.
  • Special care should be taken for lips as they are more sensitive. So apply a lip balm or moisturizing lip stick.

Oily Skin

If your skin has a greasy shine with large visible pores, pimples on face and frequent acne on chest and back, then you possess an oily skin. The oily skin shows the signs of aging at a slower rate compared to other skin type so it is often considered as an advantage.

  • Use hot water to cleanse your face which helps in dissolving the skin oil much better than cold or lukewarm water.
  • Wash your skin just 2 or 3 times a day and not more than that as too much washing stimulates the skin to produce more oil.
  • Special care should be taken while cleaning the skin with soap or other cleanser as too harsh rubbing may lead to clogging of the pores. Gently massage the skin with your finger tips in upward and downward motion.
  • Skin care products should be selected which are meant for oily skin.
  • Always opt gel based cleansers which helps in getting rid of shiny or oily skin complexion.
  • Moisturize your skin after cleansing with a light moisturizes or serum.
  • Apply a face pack preferably mud pack or clay pack once or twice a week.
  • Never pick the acne as it may cause further spread of bacteria and leaves scars behind.
  • Consult a dermatologist for acne treatment.

Combination Skin

If your skin is having an oily or greasy appearance at the area of chin, nose and fore head and dry appearance around the eye, on cheeks and mouth, then you possess a combination skin. It is just a combination of both dry and oily skin and therefore special care should be taken for dry part and oily part of the skin separately.

  • Use water based and non-comedogenic makeup products.
  • Use gel based daily moisturizer.
  • Limit skin cleansing to just twice a day.
  • The oily part of the skin should be deeply cleansed and the dry part should be gently cleansed with a moisturizing cleanser.

Sensitive Skin

If your skin has a thin delicate texture with fine pores and is allergic to most of the cosmetic products and environmental conditions, then you possess a sensitive skin. This skin type is adversely affected by both cold and hot conditions and may suffer from itching, rashes, reddening, and irritation on both summer season and winter season.

  • Wash the skin gently with mild cleanser or soap like baby soap.
  • Pat dry the skin with soft tissues or fine towels.
  • Carefully choose the cosmetic products which are devoid of potential allergens. Such products should be purchased only after testing its reaction to your skin.
  • Try as much as possible to use natural and homemade skin care products.
  • Doing fruit facial thrice a month is good for sensitive skin.
  • Avoid food items which causes skin allergy.
  • Applying Aloe Vera to the skin directly gives a soothing effect.
  • Hydrate your body by drinking plenty of water.

Thus by knowing your skin type and by opting an appropriate skin care procedure, you can of course gain a healthy, glowing fresh and young looking skin.
