How is Osteoporosis Measured

DEXA scan - Dual Energy X-ray Absorptiometry is the technique used to measure osteoporosis. The test measures the quantity of bone in various parts of our body. The results obtained are interpreted as T score which describes the bone density as compared to an average score. – 1 to 0 indicates normal bone density. -1 to -2.5 is low bone density and indicates osteopenia. Below -2.5 means the person is osteoporotic.
