Head Lice Symptoms


  • Head lice are very small insects that live on our head or scalp.
  • They can easily get spread by close contact with the affected person.
  • Head lice are a kind of parasite that lives in the scalp.
  • It needs human blood to survive.
  • It only lives in hair and sometimes eyebrows and eyelashes.
  • It is not dangerous as it can easily be treated.
  • Its scientific name is pediculus humanus capitis.
  • It has three forms: nits, nymph, and adults.


  • It spreads when a person comes into the direct contact of the infected person.
  • Generally, head lice infect our head. Kids carry it while they play, they go to school and pass it on to other children.
  • It can spread by using infected hair combs and brushes.
  • >We can not get lice from pets and animals.
  • Lice cannot jump or fly.
  • It can spread by lying on an infected bed or using contaminated pillows and sheets.
  • Lice cause intense itching on the head.
  • They can be found on the end of the hair strand or on the scalp.
  • It is not easy to take off the lice by just combing your hair.
  • However, it is not a serious medical problem.


  • Too much itching in the scalp.
  • Very small eggs at the end of the hair that is hard to remove.
  • Sores and skin infections that is the result of scratching the head hard.


  • Always consult a doctor before applying lice removing medicines especially if you have asthma or other allergies.
  • Do not use it too much.
  • After treating your hair with shampoos and lotions check your hair to see whether the lice are completely gone or not.
  • Use a clean comb every 2-3 days.
  • Try not to use anybody’s comb or brushes.
  • You can prevent this problem by using some safety measures such as avoiding the sharing of your hair accessories, combs, hats, towels, pillows and bed sheets with the person who has head lice. 
  • Pregnant women and women who breast-feed their kids should not use lice removing medicines.


  • Treatment of this disease is very easy.
  • There are many shampoos and lotions available in the market by which lice can be treated completely.
  • These products can be used without any medical prescriptions.
  • If these medicines and lotions are not effective, then the doctor may prescribe you some hard medicines to remove lice.
  • These medicated shampoos and lotions should be applied exactly in the same way as they are directed.
  • You can also remove nits by using nit combs.
