In addition to above simple and affordable measure there is another ayurvedic treatment and that is intake of vasant kusumakar ras. This is a bit expensive but regular intake of this syrup coupled with honey or cream, keeps your blood sugar level under check.

The herbs used in Ayurveda

Bael (Aegle marmelos)

Bitter Gourd

This is the most well-known food in treating diabetes. The seeds of the karela have charantin, which assist in keeping the sugar in the blood under check. Justifying the name, the bitter gourd is bitter and tough to consume. But it should be eaten in as much bitter form as possible or its properties will be diluted.


Fenugreek can curb the drainage of sugar through the urine. Thus it can ease the symptoms of diabetes.


Garlic has been believed in Ayurveda to contain the best vata pacifying elements. It becomes beneficial as diabetes mellitus is a vata disorder.


The jamun is also called as the Indian plum (indian black berry). It has a particular action on the pancreas, which checks the conversion of starch to sugar. The seeds of the fruit are more effective than the pulp.

Neem (Azadirachtha indica)

The neem or the Indian margosa tree is popular for its medicinally effective bitter leaves and other parts. If the paste of its leaves is consumed regularly it can reduce the sugar content of the blood.

Onion (Allium cepa)

The onion has hypoglycemic elements. In Ayurveda, it has been tested thoroughly for its rasayana elements. Along with these elements, onion can fortify the strength of the body.


Combination of amla, baheda and harde is call triphala. These can also be used as whole in this disease. Sock 1 table spoon of triphala powder overnight and consume it in the early morning.
