Introduction:

Green Man Festival is an annual music festival held in Brecon Beacons, Wales. It includes live performances by independent artists from a wide range of genres such as indie, folk, psych and Americana. There are performances from well known DJs who play everything from dub-reggae to stoner rock all through the night.

History:

The first Green Man festival was held in the year 2003 for one day with only 300 people attending the event. It was held in Craigy Nos Castle of Wales. Some artists who performed at the festival were Julie Murphy, King Creosote and James Yorkston.

The following year, in 2004 the festival was held in Baskerville Hall Hotel at Clyro for two days where the number of people attending the event increased to over 1000. The music included Fionn Regan, The Earlies and Joanna Newsom to name a few.

In 2005 the event was planned for three days and the number of people attending the event increased to 1500. Many well known artists performed at the festival.  In 2006, the festival had established itself and received rave reviews with over 6500 people attending it. In 2007, the festival attendance increased to a whooping 10,000. In the year 2008, the venue was shifted to the sprawling Glanusk Park estate located in South Wales. It drew huge crowds despite the worst British summer.

Recent Years:

By the end of the decade, the festival was so popular that all tickets for the 2010 festival were sold out 10 weeks in advance. It was held in the August of 2010. The 2011 Green Man festival was held from the 19th to the 20th of August at the Glanusk Park Estate in Wales. There was a wide variety of music from electronic music to the DJ nights on the Far Out after dark stage.

This Year:

The Green Man festival for this year is planned in August 2012 on the 17th, 18th and 19th of the month at the usual venue in South Wales – Glanusk Park Estate. The lead performers listed so far include Feist, The Time & Space Machine, Peaking Lights and more are waiting to be announced.
