The Daytime Emmy awards are an acknowledgment of the quality of programmers aired during the daytime, on American Television. The awards were instituted by the New York-based National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, and the Los Angeles-based Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. The Emmys are like Academy Awards are for films, Grammy Awards are for music and Tony Awards are for the stage.
The 1st Emmy was given in 1972 to the ‘The Doctors’ for best daytime show. Mary Fickett bagged the award for outstanding achievement by an individual in any daytime drama for ‘All my Children”.
John Beradino who worked for the longtime running show’ General Hospital” championed the cause of the artists in recognition for their contribution to the field of entertainment.
The awards hosted by Barbara Walters and Peter Marshall were held as a separate entity, at the Channel Gardens at Rockefeller Centre at New York, in 1974.The famous Kodak theatre at Los Angeles was held outside New York for the first time in 2006-2008.
Based on voting in 2003, an additional voting round was added to do justice to the star cast. Known as “pre-nominations” from each show, two actors are selected who are eventually penciled down for consideration for the actual award, the Emmy.
The 43rd Annual Daytime Emmy Awards will be held on May 1st, 2016 & the final nominees announced on Thursday March 26. We can watch live on the CBS network from Las Vegas.
