Wireless Broadband

Broadband is nothing but a high speed communication system that can share large quantities of information – voice, data, music and video. It is a technology that can send more than one thing at a time. It is any data access connection which is higher than 200 Kbps.

Wi-Fi : Wireless Saga:

Wireless or ‘Wi-Fi’ Internet (Wi-Fi stands for wireless fidelity) enables one to enjoy broadband without wires by transmitting the Internet connection as radio waves to the computer. Wi-Fi enables one to surf the web anywhere in the home and gives him the freedom to do a lot more with the computer, such as:

  • Browse the latest news online instead of buying a newspaper.
  • Take breakfast in the garden whilst listening to the favorite radio shows online.
  • In the kitchen, use the computer system to discover new recipe ideas.
  • Chat with the friends online in the lounge, kitchen or study.
  • Download a film and watch it anywhere in the house.

Wi-Fi, a short form for wireless fidelity, is a wireless communication machinery so as to provide connections between handy computers and wired connections to the Internet. To connect consumers to the Internet, Wi-Fi devices make use of low power transmitters and receivers prepared with unique computer chips holding wireless modems. The chips can be configured in the computer system computers, personal digital assistants (PDAs), and cellular telephones.

Wireless modem meets the corresponding purpose as modems that function with usual wire based networks. They code and decode the signals to small digital bit streams, the same format which is utilized by computers. WI-Fi- equipped computers, cell phones, and PDAs offer mobile wireless access to e-mail and Internet sites. The wireless modems have to be in the range of a Wi-Fi apparatus comprising of a transmitter and receiver that is linked to a landline providing Internet services. Regions inside the range of a Wi-Fi transmitter and receiver are identified as hot spots.

Existing technological principles limit the range to space of about 90 m (300 ft). A lot of transmitters, though, can be allied to cover up a wider area, such as an airdrome or lodge. Present Wi-Fi technologies allow information to be transferred at high speeds varying from 11 to 54 megabits per second. This is known as a broadband connection because an enormous quantity of data can be sent rapidly.

An innovative technology known as WiMax assures to expand the range of a transmitter and receiver to approximately 48 km (30 mi). The WiMax technology also expands the competence of broadband connections by facilitating users to remain connected to Internet hot spots even when traveling in an automobile or train at speeds up to 250 km/h (155 mph).

Establishing a Wireless Broadband Setup

It is actually very simple to establish a wireless broadband system. If one has just one computer system, Wireless broadband gives one the freedom to go online anywhere in the home. If you have more than one they can be connected together to share the broadband connection. One will need at least one desktop computer with broadband connected to the telephone or cable service as normal using a modem. The desktop computer then wirelessly connects to all the other computers in the home. The other computers can be all laptops, desktops, or a combination of the two. All one need for establishing a wireless broadband network is a wireless adapter for the desktop and for each of the other computer systems.

If one don’t have desktop computer systems but have one or more laptops one wish to use without wires. This requires a router. A router is a box that takes the Internet connection from the modem and converts it into radio waves to transmit throughout the home.

Once you have the right equipment, connecting everything together should take less than half an hour. Just one need to follow these four steps:

  1. Install the router (if required)
  2. Install the wireless adapters
  3. Configure the network
  4. Secure the network

However there is another alternative. As a substitute of buying broadband from an Internet provider and then converting it into radio waves in the home with a router, one can also buy radio wave broadband directly though it is available in very less nations. A large antenna transmits broadband all through the local town and into the home using radio waves. However, such services are in limited areas and have a maximum speed of around 1 Mb.
