XP installation over vista?

Description : I currently have windows vista ultimate on my 250 GB HDD, but when i try and install XP over it, It formats fine with the XP disc but after the following reboot it doesn't continue setup like it's mean to. It just freeze's on the "press any key to boot from CD/DVD" screen. does this mean I cant install XP on that partition and that I should create a seperate NTFS partition to install XP? I dont have the internet connected to the computer thats running that copy of vista, so its never had a chance to update.

Answer : When installing XP , first select the drive and then delete all partitons on it, dont install but delete all partitions on the hard drive, then restart, then install like normal. read carefully when the XP disks find all your hard drives, and remember select the drive and DELETE all partitons on it. and make sure to back up your inportant stuff cause that disk is gonna get a clean sweep.

Windows Vista Ultimate sp1?

Description : hello, I just upgraded from xp to vista. after the installation. I installed vista on E instead of C:. But after the installation the system files of windows xp in C; is still in there. Should or Will I delete it? I want a real and helpful answer pls. Thanks Will I delete the winxp installation files in C: cause i already have vista or I will just ignore it? Thanks in advance

Answer : Since you installed Vista on E: instead of C: you basically have 2 operating systems installed, if you remove it you risk damaging your boot loader. Although this isn't fatal it just causes a whole other fix. What I would do is save what you want from C:, so like files, pictures etc. then format drive c: This should fix your issue.

Windows vista installation problem?

Description : im trying to install vista ultimate on my computer that has xp on it. i put in the disc when the computer was already running. the screen came up and i followed all the steps n then it was finished. so i rebooted my computer and it went to a screen, i forget what it said but the only way i could pass by it is is i loaded a "older version of windows" so i pressed that and i took me to the normal sign in screen. so i restarted without the vista disk then restarted with it and it went to the screen that says install now. the same window as i started out with. so i tried to enter the product key again and when i pressed next it wont let me to the next part. said something about continuing my previous installation just to upgrade and keep all my files..........at the very last of my question. when i get to the product key and enter it this is what it says.....to use the product key you entered, start the installation from your existing version of windows

Can someone help, Im having issues installing Vista Ultimate or XP on a new sata drive?

Description : Here is my situation. i have an 8yr model Toshiba Qosmio G35-AV650 that was running XP, it was my brothers and was riddled with viruses, i dont have any of the discs that came with it. i decided to update the drives in it. one of the drives is new and running ubuntu 11.10 the other is one of its original drives, on this drive i want to do a clean install of either Vista Ultimate or XP on it (i am looking to dual boot for games), XP wont go on it with out the drivers and can then only be accessed by floppy which this computer does not have or by using nlite which i have no experience with (ill have to tweak the install cd by physically adding the drivers and making a new ISO). with vista is the same way how ever i could download the drivers to a usb thumb drive and access it during the installation which i tried and it worked until it rebooted after the install at which time i got the blue screen of death i only had the RAID drivers on it. i would very much like to install vista because a) the usb driver access and b) ive NEVER had an issue with it on my tower. windows 7 is too new and this computer too old so 7 is out. is there someone who has run into this before or knows what i did wrong? Ubuntu 11.10 is on one drive which i take out and put in the drive i want to install windows on. once windows is installed successfully i will put both drives back in. at start up when i hit F2 i can choose which hard drive to boot from (the linux drive or the windows drive) instead of choosing which OS to run on one drive

Answer : Try installing Vista/XP to the new drive first, then dual boot Ubuntu to the old drive... http://apcmag.com/how_to_dual_boot_windows_xp_and_linux_xp_installed_first.htm ☺

Dell (xp) computer vista error plz help?

Description : i have a xp microsoft computer (that being came with xp) i installed vista ultimate. i wanted to take vista off and go back to xp, but when i tryed to do a dell system restore (using crtl+f11 on startup), it wasnt working. So i installed vistaboot pro, to take vista off. but i think that i had taken xp off completly, along with the newly removed vista. so now i have no OS on my computer, when i go to turn it on an error comes up saying File: BootBCD Status: 0xc0000034 Info: the windows boot configuration does not contain a valid os entry. but when i insert my vista disc, the same thing happens. i have my xp installation disc also, which i have tried, but along with the vista nothing happens, i get the same error.

Answer : Ok, here's what you should do, what Microsoft does (this is what I heard) that Windows Vista does something to the BIOS/Motherboard making it almost impossible to downgrade to XP/ME/98 etc. What I think you should do is get a new hard drive try putting vista or xp on that, then get a external hard drive case and put your old hard drive in that so you can get your files back. Also if you want both XP and Vista, google a tut on how to have both Operating Systems on the same hard drive.
