How to install Windows xp on vista 64-bit?

Can I upgrade 32 bit Windows XP to 64 bit Windows 7?

Description : I an currently using the 64 bit Windows 7 Beta on an AMD Phenom II 940 with 8GB of memory, which is absolutely beautiful. However, the beta is starting to expire. I downloaded the new RC1 of Windows 7. I can use that until I get my 'good' copy of Windows 7 retail on October 22, no big deal there. However, my pre-ordered copy is the upgrade version which will only upgrade from an existing XP or Vista installation. The only version of XP I have is x86, 32 bit. Will I be able to upgrade from the 32 bit XP to 64 bit 7? This is going to be from a clean 32 bit XP install anyway, all I need is the existing OS requirement for the Windows 7 x64 upgrade install.

Answer : No there is no upgrade option from 32 to 64 bit

I need help on dual booting windows vista 64 bit and windows xp professional.?

Description : Ok so i'm dual booting the two operating systems on two SEPERATE hard drives. I was wondering if I need to set the jumpers on each hard drive to Master or if i set one to master and one to slave. Also I installed xp on the second hard drive and after the installation my computer restarted and then booted back up directly into xp without giving me the option to choose vista. Then when I restarted my computer again It went directly to Vista without giving me the option to choose xp. I am confused and would appreciate some help thanks

Should I get Windows XP 64-bit or 32-bit?

Description : I am replacing the monstrous beast that is Vista 64-bit because there are many games that I can't even INSTALL on it, and the benefits of this terrible OS, for me, do not outweigh the overwhelming detriments to my day-to-day gaming experience. That said, I'm replacing it with good ol' reliable XP. What I want to know is, should I get 32-bit, or 64-bit? I've read some stuff around the web that gives me pros and cons to either-or, but I have no idea which to ultimately go for because most of the information via google is outdated. One of the primary games I want to run is World of Warcraft, and I'd like as little installation hassle as possible after 3 days of merely trying to install it on my Vista. I'm also currently actively playing Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne and Warhammer Online. Help? :/ I currently have 4gb RAM with room to go to 8 if I really want. With XP 32, does this mean it simply won't register that last .5?

Answer : I suggest Windows XP Home 32 bit. There are problems with the 64 bit version. I'm sure they have been ironed out to a point, but why mess with it? It would deter your "Day to Day gaming experience". (Yes, there are overwhelming detriments, with using Windows Vista 64bit or 32bit. I'm sure the Vista fanboys will jump on this! Most of the time it's because there isn't enough ram memory installed. 1GB is basic just to get it to crawl. You have security enabled on a Vista system that surpasses Windows XP. Supposedly anyway! You also have Aeroglass. The Aeroglass windows manager takes a lot of ram by itself. Whether enabled or not. 2GB's will get Vista to walk. 3GB's get's it to run, and 4GB's it will fly. Me? I would stick with WinXP, and the Home version) Edit: Dead operating system? That would be Vista! Windows 7 is coming out soon. Hmmmm, wonder why that is? By the way. People are still running Win98! Guess they didn't fall victim to the Microsoft hype. Me? I'm running Ubuntu 7.10, Compiz Fusion, and Wine. Edit 2: Windows XP 32bit will only 'recognize' 3.2 to 3.5GB's of ram. Read this,http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/64-bit Never known a game or program/application, that could really use more than 2GB's of ram. (Except for the Ol' Vista HOG!) CAD/CAM? 3D programs? Maybe!

Can I upgrade to Windows 7 Ultimate Upgrade (64 bit academic edition) from Windows 7 Starter Edition?

Description : I have a new Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit Upgrade (academic edition) CD. I need an existing operating system to be able to install it but my old PC with XP on it has died and I can't find the XP installation disks. Someone told me the cheapest way to go is to buy the Windows 7 Starter Edition. Can I do the upgrade with my W7 Ultimate Upgrade (academic edition) CD from Windows 7 Starter edition? Or would it be cheaper/better to just buy XP or Vista and go from there?

Resident evil 5: directx 10 on xp 64-bit?

Description : i just bought a copy of resident evil, and i have a very modest mid-range gaming PC and i want to squeeze as much juice as i can from it. so unless the much awaited optimizations for windows 7 ever comes anytime soon, i'm sticking to xp. and i have the 64 bit AMD Athlon dual core... so i was basically forced to using the 64 bit xp, based on the 2003 server. i also want to play games running on directx 10, so i installed the hacked dircetx 10 for xp based on the alky project. problem is, when i use the launcher for RE5, it only recognizes directx 9 as my version of directx. i figure that since the installation of the alky project would have set the system id/strings to "directx 10", the launcher was detecting the directx9 from the fact that it was opened from an xp machine.... so that's the problem, how do i... 1) fool the launcher to thinking it's on a vista or 7, or 2) modify the launcher to enable calling directx10 -- ( this is probably the best solution for now as it seems to have integration "Games for Windows Live", so a tested approach might have already been worked out)

Answer : Why are you waiting for Windows 7 optimizations? It's already incredibly fast and awesome. I use Windows 7 exclusively for gaming. And seriously, you're using XP 64-bit, which is probably the worst OS in the last decade.

Can I run Windows XP and Windows Vista simultaneously?

Description : 1st, please explain any IT lingo, I'm a layman when it comes 2 technology. I work exclusively on a laptop & my current 1 needs 2 B replaced. My top choices come w/Vista. Replacing incompatible software will cost $1k+ (can't afford). Is it possible to install both Vista & XP to run my old software until I can afford 2 replace? Can I switch back & forth easily? How is it done? Would it be worthwhile 2 uninstall Vista & Install XP? I've got original installation CD from my old laptop (Dell). Would it be better to try & buy a new laptop with XP on it & upgrade to Vista later when I can afford replacement software or more compatibility is available? I'm looking at Toshiba, Sony, Dell, & HP. Lastly, I'm told 64 bit is the next wave & I prefer buying for the future, not just today. Would 64 bit create more software problems? Should I stick with 32 bit? Thanks so much for sharing your technical expertise

Answer : Two ways. One is dual booting - choosing which OS when the computer starts. Since you have to restart to get the other OS, switching isn't exactly speedy. The other is Virtual PC. You can install XP as an application (more or less) under Vista and swap with . You need a licensed copy of XP and a fair amount of RAM.

Does this mean my computer processor is 64-bit compatible?

Description : HI? I have successfully installed Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit on my Dell PC which had 32-bit Windows XP Professional before. Installation went smooth and the machine is running fine. But I have heard that you have to have 64bit processor to be able to run 64bit OS. Since I'm already running the Windows, does this mean my machine meets the requirements for 64 bit Vista? My specs are: Dell Inspiron 530 Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4GHZ 2GB RAM 320GB Hard Drive any help would be appreciated!

Answer : Assuming you have the E6600 processor (http://ark.intel.com/Product.aspx?id=27250) then yes, your processor is 64 bit. Even if you have the E4400 (2.4 Core 2 Duo) (http://ark.intel.com/Product.aspx?id=32242) it is still 64 bit.
