How to install Windows xp on linux machine?

Installation of a million billion things on a standalone windows XP machine?

Description : hello, i'm doing a project on PHP, now i understand that i need to have some sort of web server, such as Apache (which i have) however i do not know how to install it on a standalone PC, so that i can view the code i edit and such. i was just wondering if i could have answers to the following questions how to i get Apache to work on a standalone XP machine how do i get PHP to work on a standalone PC. the reason i ask is i have the latest version of PHP on installed and apache installed but whenever i try to view in browsers it doesn't work, or it shows just the code rather than what the code is meant to show. and apache is asking me to connect to a remote Computer which i know nothing about. usually at my university its all already setup and we need not think about this. and we use Linux for PHP related things cheers

How to install Windows on Linux machine?

Description : I have a PC running with Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy Heron. Before I installed Hardy Heron, I was running on Windows Vista Home Premium. And then Vista messed up with my Hard Drive and suddenly I couldn't boot up the computer. Then I installed Ubuntu. I tried to install Windows XP, Windows 2000, and Windows 98 but they kept telling me to run chdisk even though I have Ubuntu and not Windows. I even tried changing the formats to NTFS, ext2, ext3, and FAT but still they dont work. I was told that maybe it was my SATA Hard Drive causing the failure of the installation and was also told that to always try it on NTFS, but I'm not sure.... Any help please??? Thanks a lot Ilkan

Answer : I would recommend installing your version of windows first, then installing ubuntu 8.10 (which is the newest version) My computer is running both Vista and Ubuntu. Good luck to you. Also as the person said pior you may want to ask someone on the ubuntu fourms.

Why will my computer boot Linux but not WIndows (from CD)? Crazzzy Stuff!?

Description : Doing a dual boot of Linux and Win xp Ok so i put in the Ubuntu installation CD, set up runs nice and smooth, system is working fine. Put in Win XP installation CD to install on second parition, and it doesn't boot. Weird, maybe a fault installer, but NO! it install fine in a virtual machine on my computer running Vista. Both 32bit, can't see any reason why it shouldn't work. Even downloaded another windows distro and tried that but won't boot. But here's the weird bit, IT BOOTS ANOTHER DISTRO OF LINUX PERFECT FROM THE CD! Someone help me please... Hhaa you gotta love the way its trying to hold onto linux tho :p forgot to mention the computer previously was running win xp prior to ubuntu install!!

Answer : Most of the time, you can install most flavors of Linux as a dual partition one Linux ready and the other one either FAT or NTFS and then choose which to load at boot time.

How do I make my Apache installation for both windows and linux point to the same document root?

Description : Hi, I think I've successfully installed php, apache and mysql. The apache server is now working. but I want to do something... I have Windows XP installed on the same machine and installed AMP in there. Now I want both my Apache in Linux and Windows to point to the same directory root. which consequently is in the Windows Partition with a FAT32 file system. Now, when I try to view my webroot in Linux, it says I don't have permission. So I tried to chmod my files (which is again in the windows Fat32 partition). But the permissions don't change even if I use sudo. So if it doesn't work can I just add my user to the group where the webroot folder belongs to which is (plugdev)

Answer : It sounds like there is a problem with the mount command, depending on the distro that you have there are varying results of success mounting a windows partition. You should ask around on the support forums for your linux distro. Also I included a couple of links that may help.

Help with Ubuntu Linux installation?

Description : I am having issues installing Ubuntu 9.04 on my Win XP machine. I want to dual boot. I have to use the "Help me boot from CD" option, because when I try using the "Reboot now" or "I want to manually reboot later," nothing happens. Even when I reboot anually. I have used the "Help me boot from CD option to use the Demo version. I decided not to install due to the fact that I had to move some data off of the partition. After all that was finished, I tried to boot from the Ubuntu menu at start-up but am getting the error message: Windows could not be started because the following file is missing: system32hal.dll Please reinstall a copy of the above file. Any suggestions?

How do I dual-boot Linux and windows using my Windows boot loader?

Description : I've recently installed Windows XP Professional on my machine that's been running Linux exclusively for about 2 months. The installation went without a hitch, but now I can't boot Linux using the Windows bootloader. I've seen tutorials that show you how to do it by reinstalling GRUB, but I don't want to go through the trouble of running my LiveCD again. And besides, I sort of like the Windows bootloader because it gives you a 60-second delay for choosing your operating system. GRUB only gives you 2. (Yes, I hacked it to change the delay to 60 seconds. Don't sue me.) So, any ideas? I tried editing boot.ini to include the boot directory for my Kubuntu 6.10 OS, but with no luck. I tried accessing it and it threw me an error. BTW, the directory I tried was multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)boot. I'm pretty sure the partition is right, because it appears as /dev/hda1 on my partition editor, but i'm not sure which directory I should choose. Can anyone help?

Answer : check these 2 sites out: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ntldr http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_Dual_Boot_from_Windows_Bootloader_(NTLDR)_and_why looks like it would be easier to put the disk in and edit grub.conf
