Answer : Installing Ubuntu as a dual-boot with Windows without partitioning http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/wubi You keep Windows as it is, Wubi only adds an extra option to boot into Ubuntu. Wubi does not require you to modify the partitions of your PC, or to use a different bootloader, and does not install special drivers. It works just like any other application. Wubi keeps most of the files in one folder, and if you do not like it, you can simply uninstall it as any other application. Boot in to windows insert the Ubuntu 9.10 LiveCD and you will offered the option of installing inside windows which is where the Wubi installer comes in, you will be asked how many gigabytes you wish to allocate to Ubuntu (I recommend 8gb) then you set a password for your installation then click install and thats it. Once Ubuntu is fully installed upon starting your PC you will be given a choice of which operating system you want to use Windows or Ubuntu Ubuntu 9.10 Download http://releases.ubuntu.com/9.10/ Ubuntu 9.10 (Karmic Koala) User Guide http://ubuntuguide.org/wiki/Ubuntu:Karmic Linux Mint 7 which is built upon Ubuntu 9.04 has a similar feature called mint4win and the directions given above for Wubi can be followed (Windows 7 run mint4win in Vista compatability mode) http://duncsweb.com/2009/09/27/mint4win-a-wubi-based-installer-of-linux-mint/ Linux Mint 7 Download http://www.linuxmint.com/edition.php?id=38 Linux Mint 7 User Guide Download pdf. http://www.linuxmint.com/rel_gloria.php Ubuntu 9.10 and Linux Mint 7 can also be run straight from the LiveCD without touching your Hard drive At present Ubuntu 10.04/Linux Mint 9 are unstable LUg.

Answer : its teh best decision men. and pretty easy: 1) login as root user supersuser 2) first localize ruindows partition: blkid | grep "ntfs" these command will return something like this: /dev/sda1: UUID="d1e8f56f-f1f1-4bdf-a825-d4d01395c941" TYPE="ntfs" 3) the important cain are the "dev/sda1" part like, take these and exec then : mkfs.ext3 /dev/sda1 -L MOREDISK these comand will format puah windo partition to Linux's ext3 format (if by example previously comand return /dev/sda1) 4) now modify the fstab file locate at /etc/ directory and revise it, if u find any reference line to prevous cited, change ntfs to ext3 if somethig are missing or more info go to http://venenux.blogspot.com and searh removing windows or leave a comment
Linux Installation along with Windows xp?
Description : i want to install Ubuntu os on my PC ( with not using wubi )i want to install manualy,so i created 2 drives with (10 & 3)GB.so before installing Linux should i delete those two logical drives in Windows xp's Disk Management ?
Answer : I would delete those partitions, because it is better to let the Ubuntu installer make its own partitions. Don't try to create Linux partitions using XP, and don't try to create XP partitions using Linux... You want to have 13GB of free (unpartitioned) space when you start Ubuntu. When you get to the partitioning step in Linux, create 2 partitions in the free space that you have: 1) A small swap partition (2GB should be enough) 2) A root partition of type ext4 Be careful when partitioning the drive, that you don't accidentally delete the Windows partition.
Why?I can't boot Windows XP after the installation of Ubuntu Linux 9.04?
Description : I installed Ubuntu Linux 9.04 on my PC yesterday. My computer has 4 partitions,C(NTFS),D(NTFS),E(FAT32) and G(NTFS),and F is the DVD/CD-RW Drive. Now when I boot my PC,I can see the screen which let me choose the operating system I want(Windows XP or Ubuntu Linux). But I can't choose Windows XP,you know,if I select XP and press Enter, the screen will return back to the previous OS choosing menu, unless I choose Ubuntu. What's wrong with my PC?I can use Ubuntu Linux only, now. I am a newcomer in the field of Linux.I need your help.Thank you!
Answer : i think you wrongly installed ubuntu.. first boot with ubuntu and open the Dsik drives (c,d,e,f).. open c drive content, what is there? if there is document and settings, program files...etc. then your windows xp installation is there. reboot boot with your windows xp cd, choose recovery console repair option and type fixmbr command. reboot if your windows xp boot ok.. one problem solved. if your c drive not there in ubuntu, then you installed clean copy of ubuntu so you have to reinstall again. step to use both o/s in single pc: first install windows xp.. use only C,D,E partition only... in device manager delete G partition(before copy all your G drive content to some other drive). because ubuntu going to use only this free space only. reboot > insert ubuntu Cd at that time of installation please select use free space for installing ubuntu in current harddisk. that's it.. after ubuntu installtion you got the ubuntu boot loader. in that you select which os you want?

Answer : Back Up all your personal data from Linux, FIRST. Which Linux Distro did you use? You MUST use only the laptop Recovery disks that came with your PC, as explained in the laptop User Manual. This will install XP, "Factory Fresh", just like it was when you bought it. When done, your Linux will be lost. Then, re-install Linux and tell it to create a separate partition, so you can Dual-Boot to XP or Linux later. Here's a decent XP / Ubuntu Linux: Dual-boot Video (British) tutorial:

How do I install Windows XP over Ubuntu (Linux)?
Description : Hey, Alright, here’s my deal (I hope ya’ll can help..): The Bottom-Line (Short-Version): I bought a couple PC’s with Ubuntu (Linux) installed. I need XP on it. My XP Install disc doesn’t work (error pops up), if I tried to partition the drive, I’ll mess it up for sure; what the hell do I do? What I’ve Done (Detailed-Version): I recently bought a couple computers (Dell Optiple X GX150) that originally had the XP OS on it; currently, Ubuntu (Linux) resides as the OS (which is a bad thing, in this case). I would like to uninstall/delete ‘Ubuntu’ and put ‘Windows XP’ (or any other version for this matter) as my main & ONLY operating system. I have a “Windows XP Installation Disc” that I TRIED to use and install. I downloaded “Wine” & “Crossover”, each opens the .EXE on the disc and allows me to explore. In “Setup”, it asks: “What do you want to do?” When I click, “Install Windows XP”, it goes to the installation screen (with the numbered steps on left column), and then an error message pops up: “Windows Setup has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. You will need to rerun setup in order to install Windows. Choosing dynamic update during setup will possibly remedy this error.” So you’re thinking: “Why don’t you try disabling ‘dynamic update’, dumbass!” Well, on the numbered list (on the left-hand column), Step 2 is “Dynamic Update” whereas I can’t even get through Step 1. So, I don’t think that’s an option for me. I’ve researched this problem online, and some people say, “Get the Ubuntu Live CD, and try uninstalling it with that” – Got it…the only thing that happens after I select an option in the ‘Ubuntu Live CD Menu’ is a box keeps popping up saying “Extracting” then you see the percent bar bouncing from 0%-100% like 20 times, then nothing happens. I’ve saw people suggest partitioning the hard drive (which is 70Gigs). I know NOTHING about that. Even if I knew how to start doing it, I couldn’t tell ya the parameters to set. All them numbers, HA, I’m completely clueless on that. If anybody knows anything I can try or do, I would greatly appreciate the advice. I could do a dual-boot I guess (rather not, but beggars can’t be choosers). BTW: I do also have another hard drive I could hook-up (which has Windows 98 or XP on it) if this helps the matter. Not exactly sure how, but I think I have a round-about idea (if not, I can easily research it online). Thanks for your time and help, I appreciate you at least reading all this. -Shinin’ High- Jeremy
Answer : Get GParted Live CD http://gparted.sourceforge.net/livecd.php , Since it is Linux, it can read and create Linux/Windows Partitions.. Look at the website for more information. It will be easy to partition with this tool, Resize the Partition main partition and then create a new NTFS partition. I would recommend keeping Ubuntu. Learn more about it. You can install a Grub Menu to make it a dual Boot.. Which is very easy to do In Ubuntu. Learn about Compiz Fusion installed on Ubuntu, you can do a lot with it and there are not many viruses or spyware.. Learn the Synaptic Package Manager (Under System->Administration->Synaptic Package Manager) and Add/Remove under Applications.. distrowatch.com/ polishlinux.org/ www.desktoplinux.com/ xwinman.org www.ubuntugeek.com www.osalt.com
