Wal-Mart Stores Profile

Walmart is the giant of all the departmental stores. The multinational departmental store is spread all across the world providing groceries at discount to more than 200 million customers a week. It has the largest chain of departmental stores in the world. In 2010, it has entered the Forbes Global 2000 list as the most revenue earning public corporation. It was founded in 1962 in Arkansas. Bentonville is the hometown of Walmart which stands even today. In a decade time it has spread itself over 11 states and provided 276 stores.

The idea of coming up with a strategy of selling day to day necessities at a discount rate was the brain child Sam Walton. His motive was to sell goods at less than normal rate and help people save money and live a better life. Over the period of time it has imbibed many other policies like sustainability, integrity, respect to the customers and health and hygiene. Another major belief of the management of the company is that no one is an employee. Every person recruited by the management of the company is addressed as associates. It set international standards in the year 1991, when Walmart was first opened in Mexico City.

Financial Growth

In the fiscal year of 2008, Walmart has managed revenue of $404 billion whereas the net income of the company was $13.8billion. The profit margin of the company has been on the rise ever since it has started. It has competed with competitors from all across the world and rose above all of them.

Walmart Trivia: The name ‘Wal-Mart’ was given by Sam Walton’s assistant Bob Bogle.
