Telecommunication Business

Current trends in telecom business

The telecommunication business in the u.s experienced a considerable growth in the second half of the 1990s with the arrival of new operators like Cingular Wireless etc. Earlier the market was dominated and monopoly was practiced as AT & T was the only operator before. In recent years the increased competition in US has caused a fall in prices, including current telephone services. However, the new competitors have been only partially successful because the demand of services is comparatively less than what is expected.

Many firms have been created as a result of expansion of market, but the telecommunication sector is still described by a few large firms like AT & T Ltd. New players are concentrated into groups for the reason that telecommunications services are largely infrastructure hungry services; as a result the arrangement of the sector requires large inputs in the form of capital and technology.

To enhance the productivity of the business, features like CRM implementation, internal processes, computerization, increased quality of marketing and sales are employed into the business. Business is developing at the global level producing increasingly complex structures for the telecom sector as a whole.

Small Scale Telecommunication Business in United States

As an individual, one can easily get into telecommunication business in the United States without healthy investments through production or sale of:

  • International Calling Cards,
  • Domestic Calling Cards,
  • VoIP solutions and other associated telecommunication products, components and merchandise.

The business opportunity for such small entrepreneurs are great as far as telecommunications sector of US is concerned as the market is open for new players to come into the business though the producers or sellers have to fight hard to dominate the market. However it must be clear that these telecommunication products are in great demand in United States of America due to emerging service sector and Business Process Outsourcing Units in the US and in the global economy as a whole.

Telecommunication business Problems

Across the U.S. it has been proven that the following business concerns have created disarray throughout the Telecom Industry:

  • cut-throat price competition,
  • mergers
  • acquisition and bankruptcies,
  • constant turnover of personnel
  • Non-stop down sizing.

In addition, there are in excess of 2000 different billing platforms ensuing in invoices that are almost not possible for the client to read and understand.

Analysis by the Gartner Group and USA Today found that 85% of telecom invoices have billing faults. In addition, a rough and ready $13 billion in overcharges will be produced in the subsequent 12 months and less than 2% of these errors will ever be recognized. The telecom business is a $650+ billion giant. Of this sum, $16 to $27 billion possibly will be outsourced for third party administration and management.

Adding to these problems are the regular technology changes and modifications for voice, data and wireless that keep on creating downward anxiety on all telecom prices in every business market. Many businesses have out of date voice and data systems and no where to turn for fair expert recommendation, discussion and aids.
