A web search engine is a device intended to search for information on the World Wide Web. The search results are generally presented in a list and are usually called hits. The information may consist of web pages, images, information and other types of files. Some search engines also mine data accessible in databases or open directories. Not like Web directories, which are preserved by human editors, search engines operate algorithmically or are a mixture of algorithmic and human input.
Search engine optimization (SEO) is the method of improving the dimensions or quality of traffic to a web site from search engines via natural or un-paid ("organic" or "algorithmic") search results as different to search engine marketing (SEM) which deals with paid insertion. In general, the earlier (or higher) a site becomes visible in the search results list, the additional visitors it will get from the search engine. SEO may aim different kinds of searches, which includes local search, image search, video search and industry-specific vertical search engines. This provides a web site web presence.
As an Internet marketing strategy, SEO believes how search engines work and what people search for. Optimizing a website first and foremost involves editing its content and HTML and linked coding to together increase its relevance to specific keywords and to remove barriers to the indexing activities of search engines.
The short form SEO can also refer to "search engine optimizers," a term approved by an industry of consultants who perform optimization projects for clients, and by employees who execute SEO services in-house. Search engine optimizers may offer SEO as a stand-alone service or as a division of a broader marketing campaign. For the reason that effective SEO may need changes to the HTML source code of a site, SEO tactics may be integrated into web site development and design. The phrase "search engine friendly" may be used to illustrate web site designs, menus, Content Management Systems (CMS), images, videos, shopping carts, and supplementary elements those have been optimized for the idea of search engine exposure.
