In 1970, the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Trinidad & Tobago (ICATT) was officially recognized by act of Parliament. Earlier to ICATT’s organization, there was a small association of professional accountants such as Trinidad and Tobago Association of Chartered and Certified Accountants. The Associates of this group importune government for the Inc of a community accountancy body that would be able to place its own exams and rules. The source was modest but the purpose of the organization was daring which was to falsify a new path in the local accountancy career. ICATT’s authority is for the training development and sustainability to the members through teaching and lobbying to government on matters of a nationwide interest.
ICATT’s has about 1,160 active members who work in all sectors of the economy and Government. We bond to the
ICATT organizational functions are handled by a secretariat staffed by recruit persons. ICATT hosts monthly trains there members and non- members accounting professionals.
Institute of Chartered Accountants of Trinidad & Tobago is an associate of the International Federation of Accountants. It was the first country to adopt International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). Though ICATT acquire International Accounting Standards in 1999 but in 2010 it adopted IFRS for SMEs.
