There have been numerous lists of the Seven Wonders of the World. However, this list of the 7 wonders of the ancient world has some credence as they were widely known in the Greek world. The Seven Wonders of the Ancient World is a list of man-made creations.
The Greeks did not call it as Wonders but they termed it as "theamata" meaning must-sees .Herodotus gave the first list of the Seven Ancient Wonders of the World as far back as the 5th century B.C. Herodotus had achieved a Herculean task by compiling this list as traveling in those days was very difficult. But all the documentation was destroyed in a fire in Alexandria library and only some bits and pieces were left from where this information could be gathered. His list included

Bernard Weber revived the New Seven Wonders with a huge global campaign. It was the result of the choice of millions of people from across the globe. The New 7 Wonders represent our heritage and history since time immemorial. The results included online, sms and telephonic voting.
Initially part of the proceeds were meant to be utilized for restoration of the monuments but the revenue was barely enough to cover the investments. The results were announced on 7 July, 2007 at Lisbon. The new seven wonders attracted some criticism from UNESCO, which was of the opinion that this was not the right method of choosing.
