WOODWORKING

History of woodworking

All of us are aware that our ancient ancestors in their primitive stone age were living in caves and jungles. Apart from satisfying their appetite from the fruits and roots of trees, bye and bye, they learnt to hunt the animals for flesh and cooking them as their food.

Precisely this is the period when man should have learnt the art of woodworking, for he made bows and archers by wood for hunting. This theory is confirmed by the eminent historians also when they found traces of human civilization through extensive research.

Woodworking - as an artifact

When men sharpened their skills of arts in various fields, starting from carving the stones into sculptures, woodworking for expressing their creativity through deft handicrafts also grew to manifold proportions. Wood being available in plenty and was easy to work with comparatively, exquisite carvings were possible. Thus there developed a separate sect of artisans working in wood alone by name carpenters the world over. Woodworking is truly an art which needs untiring practice and intricate skill with abundance of patience.

Woodworking - the part of today's life

Even though the modern world has invented various materials for making articles of our daily usage, including plastic - which again is derived basically from the pulp of the woods woodworking is necessarily one of the greatest industries serving the mankind. Be it simple furniture like table, chair, cot, cupboard or chest the art of woodworking is ever growing in its demand for human consumption.

Science and technology enlarged their vision and research by leaps and bounds primarily by the usage ofwoodworking and articles made of wood, simply because of their endurance, ease to handle and its resisting power to conduct electricity.

Thus woodworking and its products have become an essential part of human life, the usage of plastic not-withstanding. Because of the limitations of plastic namely its non-degrading quality and thereby polluting the universal environment, its weak composition and lightness causing breakage etc. woodworking is still the leader in fulfilling the requirements of all of us.

Woodworking - its scope for future

Wooden articles by nature of their composition in select wood like teak, mahogany, ebony etc. endure for years without decay and can be prolonged further by over-coating by varnish, enamel, paint and allied adhesive material.

Woodworking is admired by the vast majority of people irrespective of their creed country and culture because of their highest potential in usage in everyday life.

Woodworking is still growing by the innovative techniques, modern tools used in shaping and designing and the art of creativity passing on from generations to generations relentlessly.
