Primetime Emmy Awards: Eligibility

In order to be eligible to win one of these prestigious awards, there are certain rules to be followed.

  • The show should have been aired on American television between 1st June and 31st May.
  • It should be broadcast during the primetime television slot which is considered between 6.00 p.m. and 2.00 a.m. and should be viewed by a minimum of 50% of the country.
  • A show which is competing for a Primetime Emmy cannot compete for a Daytime Emmy or any other related Emmy competition.
  • There are other more specific rules regarding eligibility of a show depending on the time of the day during which the program is aired.
  • Entries should be submitted by April and the minimum number of episodes for a show to qualify is six.
  • For the individual categories however, only one show is sufficient to qualify for an award.
